Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Bridging Tomorrow

Calendar icon
In partnership with EAC, The Norwegian Refugee Council is implementing the Bridging Tomorrow Project in Côte d’Ivoire. The project is designed to reintegrate 12,383 vulnerable out of school children into formal education settings.
Bridging Tomorrow

The project will allow OOSC to follow a one-year accelerated program and will target communities in Guémon and Cavally regions, both severely affected by the post-election crisis. NRC will work closely with local communities and schools to identify and enrol OOSC, recruit teachers, and ensure the smooth transition of OOSC to the formal education system. Such classes are outlined in the government’s action plan as a tried and tested way to integrate OOSC into school. By emphasizing gender equity, the project aims to obtain gender parity in bridging classes. Mobilization campaigns and monitoring of OOSC reintegration into school after bridging classes end are also key project components.

Bridging classes are designed to provide a sustainable education for primary school children. By implementing the project on the formal school grounds, training teachers who can later be recruited by the schools, and ensuring student integration into the formal school after the one-year accelerated learning program, access to quality education is increased. This project tackles a pressing education need in western Côte d’Ivoire while complementing the current Ministry of Education’s strategy. As part of the project’s sustainability approach, national NGOs will be trained through the course of the project’s implementation to conduct bridging classes in the future.
