EAA Foundation Wins Open Education Award for Excellence
Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, a global foundation for education, scaled new heights when it won the Open Education Awards for Excellence through its Innovation Development programme on 18 September 2024. The Open Education Awards honour exceptional leaders, unique educational resources and open practices from across the globe, thereby highlighting exceptional efforts within the education community.
EAA’s Innovation Development programme won the award through its Enacting Sustainable Development Goals category with its Education in Emergency packages which support Afghan, Palestinian and Ukrainian refugees. The package utilises a novel set of approaches combining literary learning and socio-emotional tools, as well as online and offline modalities, to provide access to education to children whose lives have been derailed due to conflict. The award is an important recognition of EAA’s steadfast commitment to providing equitable access to education despite barriers such as war, poverty, climate, and gender disparities.
Speaking about the award, Janhvi Kanoria, Executive Director of the Innovation Development programme at EAA, said: “Access to education is a fundamental right that should not be denied to any child, adolescent or youth. It is a great honor to win the Open Education Awards for Excellence as a strong testament to the importance and criticality of effective education tools in cases of emergency. At EAA, we embrace a forward-thinking approach which aims to support marginalised communities as they confront harsh daily realities that impede their ability to learn and grow. We are especially proud of the work we have done as it aims to support underserved communities and provide them with robust and effective alternatives to traditional learning.”
EAA Foundation was founded in 2012 with a mandate to provide educational solutions to the most marginalised groups. In doing so, the foundation adopts a multi-sectoral approach to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The foundation has supported more than 19 million beneficiaries around the world by providing them with effective means to access education. It works in more than 60 countries through a network exceeding 100 partners to Achieve its goals.
