Education Above All Foundation ANNOUNCES MENA YOUTH CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING
- MYCHA to Ensure Meaningful Participation of Youth in Regional Humanitarian Action through “Reach Out to Asia” programme
Doha, Qatar, 8 November 2017: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a programme of Education Above All (EAA) foundation, has announced its MENA Youth Capacity Building in Humanitarian Action (MYCHA) training, taking place in Doha from 11 – 13 November, 2017.
MYCHA is a three-day youth initiative that will provide young people, aged 18 – 30, with the knowledge and skills to plan and execute small-scale social and community development projects in crisis-affected contexts.
Over the course of the conference, youth from across the region will attend a number of workshops on core humanitarian principles including Humanitarian Landscape and Stakeholders, Accountability and Quality, Project Design and Project Cycle, Conducting Needs Assessment, Defining Activities and Goals, and Challenges and Opportunities.
Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director, ROTA, said: “Following on from the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul last year, and the resulting Doha Youth Declaration, MYCHA is part of a wider commitment to ensure youth are able to play an equal role as policymakers in addressing humanitarian challenges across the region.”
“Youth are the leaders of the future and possess unique capacities in humanitarian preparedness, response and recovery. Thus, it’s imperative that we continuously work to provide a platform for youth to make their voices heard and assume active roles in shaping the world around them for a brighter future,” Al Mannai concluded.
MYCHA will be organised in partnership with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies, Human Appeal, Qatar Red Crescent, Doha Institute, United Nations Envoy on Youth, and United Muslims Relief.
Tareq Al Ansari, International Collaboration Department Manager, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar, will deliver the welcome address on the opening day of MYCHA. Al Ansari’s speech will be followed by an opening panel discussion entitled ‘The Role of Youth in Transforming Humanitarian Action: How Can Stakeholders Support Youth Capacity?’ moderated by Dr Sultan Barakat, Director of the Center for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, Doha Institute.
MYCHA is aligned with ROTA’s efforts to equip youth with the skills to play a central role in humanitarian action across the region. The results-driven initiative will see participants go on to implement their learnings into specific youth-led projects in their home countries.
